Recently, the LEGENDARY Music Icon, JANET JACKSON, posed and sat down with a reporter from WONDERLAND Magazine to discuss everything regarding her music career, immediate career goals, and emotions surrounding the past year of her life.

Most notably, Janet was asked several questions regarding her opinions as it pertains to the Up & Coming Pop Phenoms, LADY GAGA & RIHANNA.

Personally, I feel that when reporters and other journalists present these questions to women of Janet’s caliber and accomplishment, they’re doing so as to say, ‘How Do You Feel About Those Who Are Now Sanctioned To Replace You?’ Thats what this is all about, beneath the surface.

Janet Jackson is a refined veteran artist, with years of solid accolades and success to solidify her stance in the entertainment industry. IF the woman never sells another album in her life, she will always reign supreme for decades of innovation, creativity and supreme artistry. Honestly.

However, Janet ANSWERED the presented questions, and did so with a sense of grace and decorum, I might add…

Do you feel that with Lady GaGa being so popular that your fashion now has to shock people?

I think a lot of [what Lady GaGa wears] is really cool. I’m not knocking Gaga in any way, because I’m actually a fan of hers. I don’t know because we’ve never spoken, but when I look at her, I get the vision of Leigh Bowery. I mean, everybody’s inspired by something. Do I think it’s over the top at all? I enjoy it because it’s something kind of different. It’s something new to look at. It’s going to be hard [for her] to keep up with that, but who knows?

How about Rihanna? does what she’s doing with bandages remind you of any of your previous incarnations?

Have I done that before? Yes. I’m not saying she’s copying me. Everything is cyclical. They come back around at some point.

Do you have any anxieties about keeping up with Rihanna and Lady GaGa?

To me, it’s just a matter of being you. And like I said, I don’t know what direction it’ll be, but I can tell there’s a change going on in me. Something good. A lot has happened in my life this year, a lot of changes; I think I’m kind of headed in a different direction for sure, and it’ll show itself to me. As far as keeping up, I don’t look at it like that. It’s really about being who you are and doing what you want to do. I think when you try to keep up with something, it’s not a good thing. You have to express yourself and be the true you.

How incredibly IRRITATING that Janet even had to be subjected to questions regarding her means of self expression, when compared to those who may NOT have longevity in the music business.

Honestly, people ASSUME that Lady GaGa and Rihanna will be around as long as MADONNA, JANET and the other trailblazers have managed to remain. I LOVE and APPRECIATE both GaGa and RiRi, BUT much of their presense, relies heavily on constant changes and reinvention.

Do they have what it takes to stand the hands of time?…

Now that was a fine example of class. True Janet fans like myself know that RiRi doesn’t even register on the scale of someone as iconic as JJ. I honestly think the reporter was trying to get a rise out of her but when you’ve been in the game longer then the people you are trying to compare her to have been alive you’re used to it

I like RiRi and GaGa both,I think they are great artist. But I don’t see either one of them being in the game as long as Janet or Madonna. They would have to keep reinventing themselves for man years.Eventually that will play out.

I’m a huge Janet fan and what you are so right. If my girl never sells another album her mark has already been left on the industry.

The reason she’s subjected to these questions are simple, she hasnt had a successful charting hit in how many years now? The Billboard charts are flooded with GaGa and Rihanna’s music and the Janet is starting to become yesterdays news. Comparing Madonna and Janet is a joke. Madonna has remained a relevant staple in the music industry and Janet has become somewhat of a joke.

She’s competing in a industry where she’s no longer the it girl nor is the generation “next” checking for her. None of her albums have sold well since “All For You” and her Greatest Hits album TANKED. I for one love Janet and commend her for answering the questions in the fashion in which she did. But it’s almost time for her to hang it up and let the new girls do their thing. Janet has made her mark but that does not make her forever relevant.

I see Lady GaGa standing the tests of time. She’s the new Madonna all the way. She’ll continue to reinvent herself and her fans will continue to grow with her. Lady GaGa has become sorta the new Britney (since Brit doesnt seem to care anymore) and isn’t going anywhere.

Rihanna needs hella work.

i personally would not put rihanna and Lady Gaga in the same category over and over.

let us keep in mind that gaga is not naturally attractive, is extremely talented musically, went to NYU Tisch (pretty prestigious), and struggled in clubs WRITINGGGGGGG her own music. she comes up with her own shit herself. that is a HUGE difference.

don’t get me wrong, I still have loved rihanna in the past (not as much now, where she just seems to be a sell out going along with all of the avante garde), and her success has been bigger than gagas, but her longevity i believe has more to do with executives who stand behind her more than her own quote on quote artistry. does it even exist? i’m not sure. but rihanna knows quality in music. even if it is not her own, she knows quality, and in fashion, and that is why many have been convinced that she is sucha leader in the fashion etc. she looks fly as hell, all the time, but that doesn’t mean much in comparison to Gaga

Although Janet has not been as successful lately as she has in the past, it is not because of wack music, or fading looks, or piss-poo performances. It is because of one glaring blemish on her pristine record as a trendsetter and icon: the 2004 Superbowl. In my opinion, there was a crusade to ruin Janet Jackson, her career, and her legacy. If my girl can’t pull of a hit with this next project, it pains me to say that they may have succeeded as people within her own community (black folk) seemed to have turned their backs on her as well. Hopefully it won’t take Janet dying like her big bro before people actually appreciate her again because she is awesome. And if Madonna can get her old ass out there and pull off a hit, with those tired outfits and bad dancing, I KNOW Janet can. It’s not over.

i agree with a couple of comments except for comment number 2 Janet is not a fucking joke, her legacy and music will be relevant forever don’t get it twisted. gaga is getting to y’all heads She’s talented and all but she not doing anything we haven’t seen before. when it comes to her look yeah thats groundbreaking, and she will be hear for awhile but her music doesn’t blow me away. But thats ok though,I just don’t think Janet’s going anywhere even if people want her too.she still has a loyal fan base, her goal may not be to sell as big as she use too who knows. She has nothing to prove anymore anyway.

I’ve been a Janet fan since i was eight(i’m now 32). What people don’t seem to remember is that even before All for You, Jan coped 18 number 1 singles, sold 75 million albums, and garnered 3 world tours which broke records. Jan, in the 2000′s is still selling millions, with the exception of the last album, which still managed to go gold with only two music video’s and hardly any promotion. RiRi has not sold 10 million of nonthing, Lady Gaga has not sold 10 million of nonthing, Jan has 3 albums at 10 million plus. Their is no competition, just a review of her thoughts of the lastest scene which is undoubtly has an influence on.
